Weather/Final Course Route Decision
We are aware of the need for safety and as such have made provision for an alternative route at about 6.5kms. We shall leave the final decision about the route until as late as possible – knowing that many of those who competed over the last few years will probably want to run the exact same course. (see map here + below for more route details).

Aboyne Weather (closest to Lumphanan) can be found from the BBC Website here.

Car Parking
You are asked to park your car in the Lumphanan Golf Club car park (at the end of the village in the direction of Torphins). If the car park is full then you are asked to park on the main roads of the village – but away from the course start area (to ensure that the runners are not impeded). Please have consideration for the residents and road safety when parking.

Showers/Changing/Toilets
The main changing area this year is in the Church Hall. There are toilets here but no showers. Changing facilities with showers + toilets are available at no cost in the village sports field changing rooms. The toilet areas in the Village hall can also be used for changing. Please lock any valuables in your car – or leave them with a trusted person. We will not accept responsibility for any losses.

Course Safety
There are signs posted around the course to alert any vehicle drivers of the race, and cars will both lead and follow the field. However, we would ask you to run on the right hand side of the roads. This should improve your ability to see any on-coming vehicles and likewise they should be able to see you. Course marshals will be positioned around the route – to ensure runners find their way around and also to encourage any vehicles to slow down.

Start
The race starts at the gates of Lumphanan Primary School. Please be there prompt for an 11.30 am start.

Finish
The finish will be at the other end of the playing field giving a final run in across the grass with the clock in sight. After the finish line you will be guided into a funnel and a narrow loop back towards the timing tent.  Please keep moving in this section but stay in the order you finished in so that you can be allocated the correct time.

Course (Routes A + B the same for first 6.5kms)
The 10km (almost circular) course begins with a long, steady incline - lasting about 2 km (Here is the profile). It is hard work getting to the top of this; but once you are at the top it is pretty well downhill or flat for the next rest of the course (route A only!……route B being having a hill at 7.5 kms)
Route A : At about 6.5km the route veers off the tarmac road and onto a farm track. There is a small incline at this point but it doesn’t last long. This ‘off road’ section lasts for about a kilometre. Conditions here may be a bit tricky.
Route B (Alternate): If the farm track is too muddy/dangerous the route will continue on the road down to the main Torphins/Lumphanan road. You will then take a right turn onto this ‘main’ road. Unfortunately, this means a bit of a climb before the final descent into the village.

Water Station
A water station is positioned just over half way around the course. When you are finished with please try to make sure that you throw/lay the cup down at the side of the road – so that those who are picking up the empties later don’t have to climb across half the Aberdeenshire countryside!
